The Granfondo Garneau-Quebecor is an annual event organized by Louis Garneau Sports for the past 9 years. The participants must ride a 118 km between Trois-Rivières and St -Augustin-de-Desmaures. For 2017, the organization is offering a new 20-kilometer course, the Minifondo, from St-Augustin-de-Desmaures to Neuville and back.

This event is intended to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits while raising funds for the Little Brothers organization. The event is open to both amateur cyclists and seasoned athletes alike. Last year, the Granfondo attracted over 2,500 cyclists.

The 9th edition will take place on Sunday August 13, 2017. Riders will take the start at the Alphonse-Desjardins sports center in Trois-Rivières starting 9:00 am and will arrive at the Louis Garneau Sports factory in Saint -Augustin-de-Desmaures in the afternoon. Several pelotons will be formed according to riders’ average speeds.

Participants of the Minifondo will set off from St-Augustin-de-Desmaures at 8:30 am towards Neuville. They will then take a break before heading back to the Louis Garneau Sports factory via St-Augustin-de-Desmaures’ 3e Rang. They will be back just in time to enjoy a good meal and watch the Granfondo riders cross the finish line.

Since its creation in 2009by Louis Garneau, the Granfondo has been very involved in the community to support the Little Brothers organization. In eight years, over $460,000 have been donated to this organization.

Q5: I am unable to sign up online, is there another way to sign up?

Q6: What is the riders’ average speed?

For the Granfondo, the average speed varies widely since we have cyclists of all levels. The morning of the event, several pelotons are formed according to the speed groups specified by the participants during registration: 20-22 km/h, 22-24 km/h, 24-26 km/h, 26-28 km/h, 28-30 km/h, 30-35 km/h, 35-40 km/h and over 40 km/h. You must choose a speed group when you register but there is no problem if you decide to take the start in a different group on the morning of the event if you have reassessed your capacities. It is not necessary to notify the organization. We ask that participants finish the course in a maximum time of 6 hours.

As for the Minifondo, it is a ride that comprises one or two pelotons at an average speed of 20 km/h. The ride will take a break after 15 kilometers at the Neuville municipal garage. We consider that you are able to participate in the Minifondo if you are able to ride solo at 20 km/h during one hour.

Q7: Do I need a FQSC license?

The FQSC license is mandatory for all participants of an accredited event as it allows you to benefit from a liability insurance and a training accident insurance. Your FQSC license for the event is included in the registration fees. When collecting your participant’s kit, you will also need to sign the license document.

Q8: Is it possible to collect another participant’s kit?

Yes, it is possible, but you will need the date of birth of the person for whom you are collecting the participant’s pack. You will not however be able to sign the FQSC document in their place, they will have to come sign it before taking the start of the event. This is VERY IMPORTANT to ensure that each participant is covered by the event’s insurance policy.
